J26 Mustang var ett av de mest populara plan som Flygvapnet nagonsin haft i tjanst. Bade piloter och tekniker ar rorande eniga om 26:ans fortjanster, manga anser att Mustangen var det sista riktiga"flyvapnet".? Mustangen tjanstgjorde i Sverige under ett decennium, som jakt-, spanings-, skol- och sambandsflygplan. I boken beskrivs denna tid i ord och bild. Dessutom foljs flygplanens fortsatta oden fram till vara dagar. Detta ar en bitvis mycket spannande historia da var svenska J26 kom att gora tjanst i Israel under Suezkrisen, i Nicaragua och Dominikanska republiken. I ett senare skede kom de till Bolivia och nagra var med i under det s k "Fotbollskriget". En del har deltagit i pylonracing och nagra flyger fortfarande som "Warbirds" av stolta agare.
