Описание (About this book): The armed forces of the Warsaw Pact, composed of the armies of seven diverse countries, deployed most powerful ground forces in the history of 20th century Europe. The most important elements of the Warsaw Pact armies were their armored forces. Assigned to fight in western Europe, they were under the complete control of Soviet generals. From the end of the 1940s, to the late 1980s when the Warsaw Pact disintegrated, their ostensible objective was to safeguard the Communist bloc. But their real task was to carry the war onto the territories of the neighboring NATO countries. This was the reason for their need for strong armored forces.
